Handbook 44

Handbook 44 is published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of its responsibility for cooperating with States in securing uniformity of weights and measures laws and methods of inspection. It is published every year following the annual meeting of the National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM).

The ISWM Scale Code is available in the Members Only Section of the ISWM Website.  The Scale Code includes the weighing sections only of Handbook 44.  ISWM Members can log into the Members Only section to download the current year Scale Code.

Staying up to date with the Handbook is obviously critical to all professional weighing technicians and salespeople. As such, demonstrating knowledge of the Handbook is a prerequisite for achieving the ISWM Certifications

The ISWM periodically offers Handbook 44 training and testing, typically in conjunction with either the ISWM Conference and Expo (even-numbered years) or at a division meeting. Contact the ISWM staff at [email protected] for future test dates.
